Azrael is an archangel, the seventh amongst the twelve of them. In the Bible, Azrael is recognized as the Archangel of Death. This, however, doesn't mean they are evil. They guide souls to heaven, and help those who are grieving.
Azrael finds her true vessel, a woman named Oro Dias, and is plunged into the mortal world. She is given the job of watching over the Winchesters, and trying to stop them from changing their fate anymore than they already have.
But life isn't just making flower crowns and braiding each other's hair.
