Umber, or Star is stuck in her "School for troubled kids". What they mean by that is "lab for testing on shifters". Umber is completely confused and scared out of her mind when a stranger buys her out and her friend Dark. But when the man truly shows himself to Umber, she might just start to trust people. Even after what they did to her. But before she can do that she is forced to either start Darkness or end it.

Warning: There is blood involved. If you don't like reading about blood I suggest not reading this.

Rose finally realizes that she can do this alone, she's going to need help from her father to help her get back on and also have help from the new cute boy, Austin who's helping for his community service. At first he doesn't want to be there, but eventually finds a reason to stay. Rose has had a good life up until the day of the accident, but now she's got to face loss, and heartbreak, but she's got to learn to get back in the race.
