"Violetta, look at me." my mother pulled me closer to her, embracing me in a warm hug. The constant banging on the door only grew louder, and the door looked like it could break at any moment.
"Open up, I know you're in there!" the voice outside the door taunted, spreading icy chills all over my body. I stifled a scream, and turned bleary-eyed to my mother, with my death grip on her wrist.
"We can get out of this. Trust me." I tugged at my mother; she wouldn't budge.
"No."
"There's no time to waste!"I screeched at her. This can't be happening.
"Violetta," this time, her voice was eerily calm. "Only you can get out of this." She passed me a key. I took it and it felt heavy in my hand. The door had quite a few big cracks here and there and I knew he could come any moment. I shook my head. I resumed dragging her to the window, but she kept resisting me. She kept thrashing around and hitting me because she wanted me to let go. But I couldn't. I still had yet to give her the lush life she deserves, I've still got to take her to go sightseeing all over the world, I've still got to... Suddenly, all the pounding had stopped. I turned back to face the door, silently praying that he had considered leaving us alone.

And then the door burst open.
