When Essie falls victim to anxiety and depression, she begins to separate herself from her friends. She stops creating music, stops singing. Her grades slip, and slip, and slip, until she is to the point where she gives up on life. Then one day, she sees a boy on her television- a boy full of life, and magic. She is amazed as he glides across the stage. As he dances, she feels hope restoring in her heart. Her soul. Her mind. She begins to sing again, making music, and she draws beautiful things in her sketchbook. She has a new passion as well- robots! She makes small robots to keep her company. She fantasizes every day about moving to California and meeting this boy. She writes unsent letters, and writes letters back to herself. She is determined to meet him- when one day, something happens at the Green County Fair. Something involving a singer, a dancer, and ... a thief.
