The story starts with a Queen fan's death, shortly after Brian May's death. He's survived the rest of the band and is tired of living; she lives by a radioactive ocean and is tired of the world.
They somehow find each other on the Other Side and help each other across Akeron. Upon crossing, they find themselves in a parallel world where everyone is eternally youthful, Queen are a powerful socio-political force, and money is no object - because it doesn't exist.
Everything seems great: Freddie is young, hale, and has been having a nonstop blast of a life in the sixty-plus years since his death by AIDS, which is also absent from the equation.
The fan, dubbed "Seashell" by the band, becomes their sweetheart, bedding all four of them during one of their lavish touring parties. They tour, but take the pace easily, moving from one city to another whenever they feel like it, until they return to their home base of Rhye: a fabulous port city on a huge lake surrounded by mountains.
Upon going on a roadtrip through the Beringia tunnel with Roger Taylor, though, they discover that darkness has started to encroach upon this unlikely Paradiso...and it must be stopped.
