At the age of 16 every person undergoes the Test, in the capital Perra. Only 10% will survive, but those who are left are changed for the rest of their lives. Obtaining abilities without bounds, humanity has entered a golden age. But what happens when the first generation of people - to under go the Test - die within minutes of each other without cause. Every year a new wave of enhanced individuals are dying when they turn 36. Is humanity doomed, is this the end?
