"I shall always love you, my dear bairn. Remember that, no matter what happens. And you must promise me something before I go," Bethany whispered with all the strength she could muster.

"Anything, Mum," the young woman answered.

"You must stay away from the water."

Briony Fairborn, a midwife in eighteenth-century Scotland, comes from a family shrouded in scandal. Left with only one friend after her mother's death, she has little hope of gaining any others, let alone finding a husband. Instead, Briony tries to live a quiet life and avoid her neighbors' ridicule as much as possible.

But things in Everton take a drastic turn when a storm brings foreigners to the village docks.

On the night Santiago Mendes arrives, he comes with a broken ship, a broken leg, and a broken spirit that Briony finds herself profoundly drawn to. Her scarred heart slowly starts to open, and although Briony suspects he may be hiding something, she cannot help but dream of the possibility of love.

That is, until another stranger appears in town, intent on repaying a childhood debt. A dangerously handsome stranger who shows Briony that she's even more different than she could have imagined. And that her past is far darker than she realized.

Magic, romance, and political intrigue collide as the secrets surrounding one Scottish woman begin to unravel. Secrets that she may not be ready to face.

{Featured Story!} #1 in Supernatural #48 in Romance #5 in Historical Fiction "They say at night, the howls of wolves echo across the land, and in the morning farmers find their animals missing or slaughtered. Keep your wits about you, my dearest friend. Beware of the wolves." 1561 Alba - Scotland Màili is the only child of Catholic Lord, Seumas MacDhòmhnaill, and his wife Màiri. Most of her life has been spent hidden away in the Scottish countryside to keep her away from the rumours rife at court since her Mother's death. Màili knows one wrong move could bring those rumours at her feet too. Cries of witchcraft and gossip about her father's dwindling funds, means Màili's future remains uncertain. Close to destitute, her dowry gone, her only chance - in the eyes of her father at least - comes in the form of an unexpected marriage match from a family willing to pay handsomely for Màili's hand. It's an offer her father dare not refuse. Quickly married to a man she doesn't know, Torian Lyall flouts Màili's every belief in what is expected from her as a wife. Nor do he or his family seem overly interested in following Catholic tradition. Trapped amongst people so different from her, speaking a language she barely remembers from childhood, she's whisked away to her new home farther North than she's travelled before. The wild and mountain filled Highlands are a beautiful place; where purple heather and thick forests covers the land, and mighty sea winds batter the waves against ancient rock. Myth and mystery swirl as thick as the grey mists in the glens, where creatures from old stories are said still to roam. And the Lyall family have secrets of their own. Secrets that might involve her in some way. Secrets that make Màili hold her friend's advice closer than she thought she'd need to... Beware of the wolves. . .
A Song for a Siren by davidJmacias
3 parts Complete
1824 Scotland: Lain, a violin-playing apothecary grieving his father, opens his heart to Adaira... only to lose her sirens. Old flames and town secrets aside, Lain won't relent until he brings her home or she pulls him under. A Song for a Siren is a YA historical fantasy and is a blend of folklore, romantic themes, and atmosphere. It's 104,700 words and takes place in a version of Rona in Scotland that has mythical yet plausible, plants and creatures. After losing his father, Lain's love Adaira gets pulled into the sea by sirens. Monty, A shipwrecked fisherman, tells of a melody in the water; the same one Adaira sang to Lain the night she was taken. Gavin, the lighthouse keeper who found Lain that dreadful night, knows more than he's letting on. While working the apothecary shop, Lain struggles with grief and filling his da's shoes. It doesn't help that Finlay, Lain's unrequited love, is back in town, wondering what went wrong in their friendship, or that every time he plays his violin something goes wrong. Thankfully, Monty sticks around, though Lain is uncertain as to why. With his da's journal, mythical plants, and violin, Lain and Monty endeavor to enchant his siren to come home, and not drown in the process, whether it be by sirens, kelpies, or the caoineag. Everyone in this story has lost someone or something. Grief and healing are the heart of it all. After years of writing, editing, querying and editing some more, I'll be releasing the first chapter and potentially subsequent pages up until Chapter 3.

Mother once told me before she was banished, "You have to be strong, My Love. You will face great challenges but you have be brave and never truly forget what is important. One Scottish Lass A Regency Time Travel Romance Novella by lisasheaauthor

Samhain. All Hallows' Eve. The most mystical night of the year. The time when the veil between the worlds became perilously thin. And with a full moon overhead, this awesome power reaches its climactic height. Sorcha had no time for mystical nonsense - there were enough challenges in navigating the mine-field of her mother's vicious temper and the most important event of her young life. For, at long last, she had left Edinburgh to see the world. She and her mother were visiting the elegant city of Bath. Sorcha was wearing the finest dress she'd seen - and she was stepping into a life she'd only dreamt of. But when Johnny's eyes meet hers, and jealous rivals vow revenge, that delicate layer between what is and what once was rips. It shreds like the fragile thread of one's life. One Scottish Lass is the first novella in the regency time travel romance trilogy. It is 116 pages / 18,000 words. The second novella in the series is A Time Apart. The first two novellas end in cliffhangers, while the third provides a happy ending. The series then will continue in another trilogy - those will be coming out over the coming weeks. These stories are teen-friendly with no explicit language, violence, or intimacy. All proceeds benefit battered women's shelters. Note that for those who prefer reading books in all-in-one form, each trio of novellas will also be compiled as a completed box set once all three are done. It just means you have to be patient and wait for me to finish writing all of them :). For those who prefer to read along as I write, and offer suggestions for me to shape the plot, these novellas are here for your enjoyment! Either way, I'd love to hear your feedback on the storyline and characters.
Ocean's Justice by DemelzaCarlton

A mysterious castaway. A Scottish hero determined to protect her. Can they survive the storm? Cast adrift on the Indian Ocean, Maria carries a terrible secret. Wherever she goes, death soon follows, and she's powerless to prevent it. William McGregor boarded the SS Trevessa in search of adventure, but he gets more than he bargained for when he saves the mysterious Maria from the sea. She can't tell them her tragic tale, so the superstitious sailors make up their own stories - and some would sacrifice her to the waves to save themselves from the coming storm. When the sharks start circling and the storm closes in, are sirens more than just a myth? A tiny taste of what's in store: My defiance was futile. What did it get me? A small raft drifting across the Indian Ocean, with nothing but the sound of waves and the smell of salt and coal-smoke. Smoke meant a ship. I was saved. I squinted into the sunlight, but the waves hid the vessel from me. Maybe I was looking the wrong way. I didn't have the strength to sit up and see. Rough hands seized me. I struggled, but my weakness won. Blue eyes drifted above, the same colour as the ocean below. A tangle of wiry seaweed obscured the rest of the man's face. "It's all right, lass. I'll take care of you." Darkness took me first. This book has been published and is available wherever you buy good ebooks.
