Arianna Smith, a year ago she would've been classed as popular, happy, lively

But that all changed when her father, her favourite person, passed away.

She became sad. She stopped asking question, stopped answering them.
Lost her friends, didn't make any new ones.
Her grades dropped, and never went back up.

But this all changes when the schools jock, Alex Carter returns to Chestwood after a year at military camp.
He notices Ariannas unhappy and depressing conversations, wondering what happened to the adventure-seeking girl he left seeing

As Alex, being the 'helpful' one, attempts to make Arianna happy again, he doesn't realise that maybe she doesn't want to be happy

Maybe she likes to be sad?

Or maybe, she's been waiting for him to help her the right way.
