When Nicolas meets Sydney in the market ( While she was trying to pick pocket him) He offers her a choice: Either let him make her his apprentice and learn to hunt, the best job you can get in Parker Village, or keep stealing and eventually get caught. Sydney chooses the obvious answer; to learn to hunt. But this has risks of it's own. She has to pretend to be a boy, as women rights are in the sewers. Not only that, a plague has broken out in the village. Sydney rushes for the antidote, while Nicolas tends to his sick mother and Sydney's sister, who have caught the plague. Through all of that, Sydney and Nicolas have to avoid being sent to the Pit, a labyrinth where you have to fight to the death for the entertainment of the neighboring city ( And yes, it is like the Hunger Games.
