I watch daily as people even scholar murder the act of writing. They have devalued our culture-Writing. Writing is more than you merely putting out your ideas, feelings for people to read. It is more of caring about your audience. Teaching, Feeding and Healing them. Maya Angelou said: "The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart."
Albert Camus said: "The purpose of a writer is to keep civilization from destroying itself." Our fore fathers, Prof. Wole Soyinka and Chinua Achebe gave writing-Prose, Poetry, Play a journalistic dimension. They were mad about it as they confronted and challenged the Authorities and False Beliefs with their literature. They caused an evolutionary transformatoin in African Literature. One that can never be erase in Africa's History. What's your genuine reason for writing?
Anais Nin said: "If you do not breathe through writing, if you do not cry out in writing, or sing in writing, then don't write, because our culture has no use for it." It such a shame to see there have been no one who have taken it upon themselves to alleniate the masses from the ongoings- political disaster, tribalism, favorism. What I see are selfish writers. You don't need to have a degree in Literary Studies before you can impact lives with your literature or birth an evolution. This generation of African Writers suffer from a cankerworm. They need to be liberated.
