Maybe it's more shrouded. More unknowable. Maybe her thoughts are a riddle surrounded by a mystery that's inside an enigma with the whole mess wrapped in bacon. Maybe. Just maybe she is like a cat who has entered her 10th life and is now content to simply listen.
When I write, I try to use simple language and speak directly to the reader. My goal is to have the reader feel as if the story is being told only to them. And my hope is that reading these stories will create a casual and comfortable bond between the reader and the narrator - kind of like sitting across a table from each other, sipping morning coffee, and listening.
