It takes a couple words from your friend Professor Oak to convince you to travel to new regions and explore new things that just becoming one champion to one region won't make you a pokemon master.

You tell him that battling strong trainers and traveling to new regions will help you become a pokemon master but your confused on where to go.

He slips and mentions a strong trainer has just left kanto and is now exploring the Kalos region. The mother of that trainer gushes about how she misses her son but knows he's having a blast.
