The setting is 1784. A crime has recently happened in this deadbeat town. What a shocker, not really. Four kids have gone missing in less than a year. Detective Dakota and Edward Higgins are on the case, spending restless nights tracking down Jeremiah Wright, the fifth boy missing, and talk of the town.
This short story is composed of mainly letters from Detective Dakota to his darling wife, Valerie Smalls, with a few long chapters.
