Mercedes was a troubled kid. She was abused, teased, and constantly in pain. She grew up sexually abused by her stepfather. And her mother wouldn't do anything about it, wouldn't accept what her daughter told her.

Then unexpectedly one day Mercedes met a girl named Ashley. Ashley was the new girl in school in the middle of sophomore year. She was completely clueless about everything. She befriended Mercedes and helped her use her voice and defend herself.

Ashley even showed Mercedes who she really was. Flaws and all. And helped her quit her worst habit of all.
