Eschar is a fallen phoenix and has lost their soul.  Without it, they will die. Eschar and their allies must travel to investigate to a Neveraland, Eternity Academy - a boarding school for pirates and witches - to investigate The Blade of the Eternity. 
On the night they arrive, Eschar saves a young pirate named Rose from being killed by three witches. Eschar tries to focus on their mission, but digging deeper into the blade leads to uncovering dark truths about Rose. With more attempts on her life and Eschar's deteriorating condition, will either of them be able to leave the island  alive?
