The world has seemed to have fallen into ruin. Mass shootings, an expectance of war, terrorism. However, there are little things (and sometimes part of the disasters!) that aren't. Acts of kindness and selflessness. That's what we're focusing on in this book.
As Gandolf says, "Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. It is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love."

"You can't rely on other people's kindness in this world. It don't exist." Normal people are like oblivious little ants, just working their way around, carry food, part of a bigger picture. People are so bland and mundane, each of them trying to be like the others. I suppose I'm no different- I'm trying to fit in too. However, a crippling obsession to avenge my only friend's death is getting in the way of that. "I love you" she says and kisses my jaw tenderly. "I love you too baby" I reply stroking her still damp hair. We were sat in a dirty McDonald's car park. We could be sat in a fucking pile of trash and I wouldn't care. Because I would be with her.
