THE MUSICIAN: Jo is constantly moving around. Her parents are university professors - and pretty good ones - so they get job offers to go to different places and teach. Now they've moved to Orono, Maine, and the only thing that gets Jo through the day is her music. But with everything that starts happening, was moving to Orono a coincidence or a plan?

THE RUNNER: Cordell never stayed in one place. He bounced around from foster home, to Juvy, and back to a foster home. Either no family could handle him, or no family wanted to. All he knows how to do is run, run far and run fast from every problem and every family that faces him. But then he ends up in Orono, eighteen and all on his own.
