When Scarlett is pulled from the ocean one night, she figures that almost drowning was enough excitement. Juggling the life of a baron's only daughter in the Emperor's city of Caerwyn is enough. Until she finds out that her rescuer is more than he seems and he's living a nightmare because of her. As fairytales mix with reality Scarlett has to choose whether to be safe, or to fight for someone else's freedom.

The only problem with fighting for someone else's freedom is that it can quickly turn into fighting for your own.

Flightless Bird

62 parts Complete Mature

Scarlett Rosalia is trapped in a shadowed world, weighed down by the pain of her past and the heaviness of simply surviving. Each day bleeds into the next, and the freedom of flight-of hope-feels like a distant memory. Alexander Knightly, a billionaire CEO with the world at his feet, is as cold and untouchable as the empire he commands. Hidden behind a mask of ruthless arrogance, he's built walls too high for anyone to climb. He knows nothing of Scarlett's suffering-until she breaks through his barriers, forcing him to confront the man behind the fortune. But saving her comes at a cost. As Scarlett begins to rise, her fragile wings falter, and the tide of despair threatens to pull her under for good. Alexander swore to protect her, but is his world truly safe for her? Can he, with all his power and pride, teach her to fly again? Or will they both fall victim to the weight of their scars? What if the past she's running from isn't the only secret waiting to be uncovered? ------------------------------ Link to my Pinterest Board, which inspired this story: https://pin.it/HFgsvoY
