Evan always tried to hide his flowers. It was pointless, almost everyone had them, but their flowers were bright yellows and pinks that made them look like walking flower bouquets. His were dark colors - blacks, reds, browns, and purples - that made him look morbid and intimidating. And his flowers stood for the worst things too. While Jared was covered in bright pink flowers that meant heartbreak, Evan had a huge, red, zinnia on the back of his neck that meant depression, dark purple irises on his arms, legs, and face that meant bruises, and black flowers lining his wrists meaning self harm. There were almost 47 black flowers. He hated it, being marked as the kid who was supposed to fall in love with a depressed psychopath. It didn't help that his anxiety would spike at the worst possible times, causing him to trip and stutter at the worst times. • Connor didn't choose to be born with depression, a feeling that started at the back of his neck and just seemed to grow. He didn't choose to be covered in burns and bruises from his abusive father, and he didn't choose to have a bright blue flower on the palm of his hand that symbolized anxiety. He wanted to end it all - the pain, the humiliation, the fucking flower that would grow at the worst possible times. He hated how everything that happened to him would affect his soulmate. The Girls with the Flame Tattoos
In this society, everyone has a soulmate. And the way to find yours is just look. Along with a soulmate, everyone has a small tattoo on their cheek with a symbol. Some could be a star, a flower, a yinyang, a fish, or even waves. There are so many people that the symbols are almost limitless. The tattoos don't care about gender or number. There could be gay matches, and there could even be polyamorous matches. The tattoos will tingle when you are near to your sm. And they will glow if you have found only one of your sm's if your match was poly. The trick is, you don't get the tattoo until you are 16. And even if you are near your match, as long as one of you are not of age, your tattoo will not tingle. Also, they are normal tattoos (except you don't get it or choose it, it just appears) so you can get rid of it. But if you do, your sm won't die but they will get very sick. The main characters of this story, Violet West (18) and Harper Black (20), both have a flame tattoo on their cheek. They live in the same state but for 4 years Harper paniced because she couldn't find her match. She wasn't sure if it was because her sm wasn't of age yet or if her sm lived far away. For 2 years Violet also paniced but she knew that some people don't find their sm for 5-10 years after they come of age, so she wasn't as scared as Harper.
