The Race happens every year. The Elders established this race 125 years ago. Every year, 9 contestants, one from each Zone, take place in a race to the death. Why would people go along with this? The winner will receive  ¥1,000,000 and luxury food for a year and are entered in a place in the Selection, as well as given a home for them and their families in Central. The Zones that surround Central are poor and can barely sustain themselves. Central is where the rich people, celebrities, and government officials live. They get the easy and desirable jobs for big money, while the Zone workers get back-breaking labor for little to maybe even no pay. The Royal Family live in Central as well. The Royal Family is in control of the race and the winner is the Prince or Princess' suitor. Mel Conrad lives with her dad in Zone 6 and is one of the contestants in the 125th annual Race. So is her brother Ryan, who lives with his mother in Zone 1. Only one of the twins will survive and enter the Selection and possibly become a member of the Royal Family. Which one will it be?
