Because the following year Kageyama was successfully enrolled at Shiratorizawa, making himself a valuable member of the Shiratorizawa Volleyball team in the process, while Hinata went on to join Karasuno's Volleyball team.
A story where Tobio Kageyama never joined Karasuno, leading him to never rekindling and forming an unbreakable bond with the cheerful ginger Shoyo Hinata. But fate has a way of intervening, and perhaps, despite all odds, Kageyama and Hinata still manage to grow feelings for eachother regardless of their distance.
