Madison is homeless. She doesn't ask for much out of life anymore, doesn't expect much, but one thing she's loved doing for her entire short life is read. So when she finds a library card in the park she gets her first opportunity to check out a book and she doesn't waste it; she picks out the biggest and hardest-to-read looking book in the place, content with the challenge of it but unaware of the trouble it will cause her -- and the world.
