Gabriel has harbored feeling for Sam since they first encountered the trickster all those years ago. He knew and accepted it since its known that all angels have that one soul that they can bond with as their soulmate. But he didn't say anything not wanting to face the bitter rejection from Sam. Well after he was stabbed by Lucifer it left the archangel weak and near death. So he hid to recover which given the angel blade should've killed him took some time and some serious mojo. Now with the new threat on the horizon and the British men of letters taking interest in the Winchesters Gabriel has made his reappearance and is determined to help the brothers all while trying to show Sam how much he really cares about the younger hunter but given he's Gabriel he doesn't always have the easiest time since if anything is trickier than him it's definitely love.
