It's the time of sixth year around the time the bad things start happening and the trio start suspecting Draco of doing them. Draco inherited this gene from the family and is closing in on his eighteenth birthday and the war is near and Draco knows how wrong Voldemort is. Hermione is the bond mate and Draco knows it but knows the shitty things he's done in the past wouldn't matter and he's likely to die anyway. So he wants to do something good with his life before he dies and asks for help from the order and wants to become a spy for them.
