It's the time of sixth year around the time the bad things start happening and the trio start suspecting Draco of doing them. But instead of the whole bathroom scene between Draco and Harry this is where things differ. He is found by Hermione one night on patrols very out of his normal character and instead of trying to fight Draco breaks down and asks for help. Because for more than one reason he's running out of time. See what Lucius didn't tell him since it hadn't been active in generations is that the Malfoy line is half Veela and they have a mate they must find and bond with before their eighteenth birthday. Draco inherited this gene from the family and is closing in on his eighteenth birthday and the war is near and Draco knows how wrong Voldemort is. Hermione is the bond mate and Draco knows it but knows the shitty things he's done in the past wouldn't matter and he's likely to die anyway. So he wants to do something good with his life before he dies and asks for help from the order and wants to become a spy for them.
