A year and a half after being mugged and raped by a masked attacker, Sam's a ghost of the boy he used to be. Once happy and social, he's now a borderline agoraphobe with an addiction to painkillers. Under the pressure of being on antidepressants, having recurring night terrors about the attack and putting up with a pack of bullies at school, the only escapes he has from life are self-harm, twisted artwork and weekly therapy sessions.
New boy Charlie is living the teenage dream - or so you'd think. Gorgeous, popular and wealthy, it looks as if he's got the perfect life. But scratch the surface a little, and anyone with eyes could see the opposite. With the constant neglect from his parents, as well as arguments when they're present and a confusing struggle with his sexuality battling it out in his head, he's never got any peace from even himself any more.
When the two boys' worlds collide, there could be interesting results for both of them...

When Charlie gets away from his drug dealing father and is sent to live with his grandparents, things aren't suddenly okay. Charlie's broken. He's not sure he ever wasn't broken. When things get unbearable, the only thing that helps Charlie feel grounded is music. What can he do when he runs out of batteries for his old walkman? At school crowds of people gather to watch Travis perform, but when he goes home his only company is his cat. He escaped his abusive parents, but now he lives with his older brother who is usually away working. Will the strange, quiet boy he finds sitting on his porch trying to listen in on his music put an end to his loneliness?
