“Solo,” She growled through clenched teeth. She stood across from the able, arms crossed; face showing irritation. “You know you can’t do this, right?”
The boy leaning back on the rotting chair rolled his eyes, “Yeah yeah, I know Mom.”
“Hey!” She shouted, causing the tall man in front of me to jump slightly. “Listen Solo! You cannot do something like this for the sake of-”
“For the sake of myself, Alby, Kattarina, and you Reinah.” He interjected. “Jesus Christ Reinah,”
“Alright.” Alby snarled, “Put the claws away.” Alby stood up, placing a hand on the flustered girl steaming to the left of me. Reinah sat down besides me obviously still irritated, “We all need to calm down.” His voice was velvety and soothing, cutting the tension between the feuding friends like butter.
“We shouldn’t fight like this okay? Solo, you know that something like this is dangerous, and under no circumstances should a situation like his be carried through. You got that?”
The two friends fought as if they were siblings bickering over a new shiny toy; and Alby was the single Mother who solved the problem in a synch. He was like a parent to us almost,
Or least, what we imagined parents were like.
Solo groaned, but loosen his tensed shoulders, “Fine.”
“Now apologize,” Alby sat back down in his chair, watching the two.
“I’m sorry.” They say in unison.
I look to Alby and mouth a “Thank-you.” Which he replies with a solemn nod and a weak half-grin.
