After a tearful goodbye in Hawkins, Joyce Byers moves her family and El to a new town called Derry. El, Will, and Jonathan have to learn how to adapt into their new environment and meeting new friends who call themselves the Losers Club. Meanwhile, El is mourning her father and trying to regain her powers after losing them in Starcourt, but comes across a shocking discovery.
In Hawkins, the party is missing their two friends who have moved away. Mike is constantly calling his girlfriend to talk to her, but realizes something shocking. When he tries to tell El through Cerebro, it stops working, leaving him helpless in the situation.
