Ianthe "Marbles" Larsson is a young, sharp-witted witch with a soft spot for everything arty. As an artist she prides herself on the ability to find beauty in anything. Her vision of the world is colorful and filled with satisfaction: life is good. The only thing numbing her is her tiring job as an employee counsellor.

It isn't until Draco Malfoy introduces her to his marmoreal father, that Ianthe starts questioning what she sees. Little by little Lucius shows her his perception of the world. And looking through his eyes, the world turns darker. For the first time, Ianthe is shown the crooked corners, deception and ugliness of society. Slowly her paintings turn dark, her behavior grows cold and her vision of beauty becomes limited to elitism and perfection.
Fascinated by each other, they are endlessly drawn back together, regardless the disapproval of everyone around them. Every meeting the effects grow worse; conflicts as jealousy and safekeeping reignite emotions they used to control. It doesn't take long until friends and family take matters into their own hands, querying the healthiness of their relationship, forcing them to choose sides
