Sanity can be described as nothing more than a limited mind; a mental operating system accepted by the masses as within normal parameters we'll say. Mental illness, which is when someone could be made out to be crazy, loopy, insane, messed up in the brain, sounds amusing from the outside right? Well, it's not so much from the inside. Nadine Fishers finds this to be the case after her short time at the Rose Garden institution for the Clinically Insane. Though being the one to admit herself for schizophrenia, Nadine begins to notice the institutions strange ways... Axel Fisher, a strange Military man who claims to be Nadine's older brother and also appears to be... A ghost!? Nadine believes him to be nothing more than a Figment of her imagination. How could someone who she's never met be her brother? And why in the back of her mind does she feel he's telling the truth? What else has been hidden from her all these years? Better yet, who?

However, her home life is less than spectacular with themes of sexual assault, emotional abuse, and self-harm painting the picture of her reality at home. When she finally has had enough and snaps, she's thrown into some of the worst experiences of her life. Read with Caution. "... A lighter was produced, a small piece of toilet paper in the other hand. A light, an ignition, and the flaming paper was dropped into the trash, igniting the waste as my own fire burned in that bed. My few, sacred fragments of sanity were burning. And it was only a matter of time before the rest of this house did too. Abercoster's Institute for Troubled Youth has been October Grimme's home for three months. Why? Because everyone is convinced that she developed a psychological problem after watching her Aunt and Uncle burn to death in their home. That couldn't be farther from the truth. There's something more to the dark voices that October hears, that even she can't figure out yet. But can she find out what she really is when the only people who believe in her are Darren; the new therapist, and Parish; the badass new kid who may, or may not have a multiple personality disorder? One thing's for sure, October's secret may drive her to insanity and kill everyone she loves if she doesn't get help soon. The clock is ticking. Can she save herself?
