Well Ella's mum Clara sought out the Hales because she knew that they were werewolves and she was fascinated about the supernatural and so was her daughter. This all happened 5 years ago before Ella's dad Bruce killed himself and after that Ella walked around like a zombie because she found him about to do it and she couldn't stop him and felt weak.
