I guess there was a time when life was easy; when every breath that I took and every thought that crossed my mind didn't seem to cause an uprising. I guess there was a time when I was careless and happy and free...I think I miss that most of all.
I have a memory from when I was a young child. I was running across the cracked concrete of an old playground a few miles from my house. I was being chased playfully by a cute boy in my class; it was the kind of chasing where you feel the adrenaline pumping through your veins, the kind of chasing where you feel your heart pounding in your chest. I remember thinking; this is what freedom feels like...this is it; knowing that even if you were to get caught, you were never really trying to get away in the first place. It's the feeling that nothing in this world could ever catch up to you, and in that moment, nothing could. But when you are ten you are too young to know that running away from people and things was not as fun as you made it out to be...and freedom, it is not simply given, it is taken.
"...Are you sure this is a good idea?" A voice spoke from behind me as I zipped up the jacket. "If they catch you, they will kill you...you know that, right?"
"I know." I reply, grabbing the gun off of the table. "But I don't really have a choice."
"Hey, logically speaking he should already be dead." Someone else spoke, "Dying over a corpse, doesn't seem very heroic. It just seems idiotic."
"Well I guess I'm an idiot than." I muttered, stepping towards the door. "Are you coming or not?"
