A scorching late afternoon sun had begun its slow descent down towards the hills and mountains of a valley within the Mojave Desert. Carving through this landscape was the worn and corroded asphalt of the once busy Route 66 highway. The towns that relied on the highway decayed into ghost towns and shoddy gas stations were speckled along every thirty miles of the highway, making it an ideal route for those that wish to traverse hundreds of miles with little to no witnesses. Among those, a solitary drifter speeds down the empty and dilapidated highway in a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Upon making a pitstop at an old gas station, the drifter spots and recognizes the signs of a female anthro victim of trafficking. And almost without thinking, the drifter felt in his heart he had to do something about it...

Then some punk put Howl's nephew in the dirt, and everything came to a screeching halt. Now, after a long downward spiral, Howl is one half-empty bottle of scotch away from complete destitution. His shot at redemption comes just in time when a former model struts off the page of a golden-age girlie mag and into his office. Her missing son's disappearance knocks Howl back into a world full of the drugs, guns, and predators he wasted his youth fighting. This time it will be different. He earned the respect of his fellow stalkers and the disrespect of the people who label those in his position as criminals. He spent a third of his life after finding his place in the Zone trying to search for his ex-wife. Though those attempts proved fruitless. ' Until one day, a bounty hunting job leads him to discover something he was never meant to see. Documents proving that she, his ex-wife, the woman he still loves now, might still be alive. His obsession is reignited, and finally his life has a purpose beyond taking jobs to stay alive. But his discovery is not only his own. The people in power, the ones that had failed him so many times before, have decided that his discovery is theirs. Will his unofficial VDV training from Alexei, his lessons from the Zone, and experience in civilian division of the Latvian military be able to keep him alive long enough to discover where she's gone after all these years?
