What do you do when your mother is a witch?

The Witch Dagan wants nothing more than her three children to accept her dark life. Her first daughter Sara is a natural at magic and has been obedient so far, but when Sara meets someone who shows her what it's like to be kind, she rebels against her mother and escapes from the woods. The Witch's younger children Henry and Gertrude are twins, lucky for witchcraft, but Gertrude is timid and Henry is stubborn. The Witch thinks she can change them by sending Gertrude through a terrifying witch's trial in the Bog of Spooks and forcing Henry into submission by threatening everyone he cares about.

With such a mother, can Gertrude learn to be brave? Can Henry protect his friends? And can Sara become an entirely different person than what the Witch wants her to be?
