All we left behind
Perhaps he will never know, but she wishes they could go back to those days, when the future seemed to be bright and there were just the two of them, and their friends, their youth, their promises. She loves him, too. But now, when happiness has faded and their promises have been broken, love seems just pointless. They don't know that love is the only thing that can save them again, as it had done once.
Into the Velvet
*EDITORS' CHOICE 2021*After falling for her senior year teacher, Louise learns a harsh lesson on what adulthood isn't. Louise has some trauma to unpack. Heartbreak's a bitch, and her first relationship had been anything but normal. Thinking herself mature for her age, her affair with Mr. Cain started swooningly well. Except things ended quite abruptly. It's a lot for a seventeen year old to handle. But who's really at fault for what happened? Who even is Mr. Cain, and what is he hiding? From the wreckage of her naivety and self-esteem, can Louise save her friendships and rebuild herself? Our love songs aren't telling the whole truth. How can this be? In this tale of vulnerability, adolescence and painful reckoning, the arrogance of youth demands a price. * "'You're what, Louise?' he asked. 'You're sorry? What am I supposed to do here? How can I turn this around? How can I tell you that everything you want and feel is reciprocated, when I have to go back to work and pretend none of it happened?' 'I don't know the answer!' I cried. 'Neither of us do.' I threw my hands up in defeat. He caught them before they could fall. 'But how do I go back to living without your words?' His voice became a whisper. He squeezed my fingers tightly, closing his eyes and bringing them to his chest. 'I need how you make me feel, Luiza. I need it to feel alive. I won't stay away. No one's made me feel this good before. And I can't stand myself for wanting what I want. What do I do?' I was a violin bow on the verge of splintering. Every inch of me pulsed with an ache that began from the marrow of my bones. Fate had brought us here. At this crossroads of ours, there were a hundred different choices to make. A thousand different lifetimes to choose from, stemming from and decided entirely by my next choice. And in the end, I chose incorrectly. I held his face between my hands, feeling the echoing pulse of his skin. I brought his face to mine. I kissed him."Complete

The teenage boy l once knew six years ago was gone. The boy who once couldn't stand to see me hurt in any way. The same boy who had kissed me as if his next breath depended on me. The same boy who had defied our families to be with me. In his place was now a cold business man whose name was feared in the business world. I blinked back tears as l stared into his unrecognizable eyes. I had made him that way. My betrayal had killed something inside him. ONE YEAR GAP✅
"Daada, Maama; Did I for once told you what I want? You've always chosen what to wear for me, what I should eat, where I should go, even the environment I should stay in. Isn't that enough for you to grant my only wish?. It's okay if you don't want to, I might have been a burden on you. I'm sorry," with that, she sprinted to her room, locked it and broke into tears, ignoring their knockings. * "I think I will let you to study abroad, but only under one condition; you have to get married; for I couldn't let you there all by yourself," Daada spoke haltingly, hoping she wouldn't agree, but her answer made his hope vanished. "It's okay, Daada, who's the guy? And have you started processing my admission?" She asked, a wide grin plastered on her face, not caring about the marriage thing, she thought it was all a threat. "It's Sadeeq, Alhaji Mustapha's son. But he studies in Qatar, that means you will also study there," Daada encapsulated, his face deviod of emotion. Ihsan looked up at Daada, and wanted to bellow out the words, but they came out as a whisper "Daada..you mean Sadeeq? He's just 19 years old. How would I marry him? Who will take care of who? Uhm Daada?" She slurred, tears rolling down her cheeks. "He is. And would take good care of your health. What's there in marrying him? Isn't he a man?" Daada inquired. "There is; it's just a one year gap between us. And he isn't a man in my eyes," she reprimanded and broke into tears. _____ What would happen to Ihsan? Would she agree on studying abroad? Fighting for her health, at the same time marrying the guy she looks down onto? As she would always avow "It'sjust a one year gap." It would be a hilarious roller coaster ride. Tag along.
