Dante's claim to the throne was weak, but it is strong enough to keep him on the seat. He tried his best to be what he needs to be to run a kingdom; a king, and within two years things started to be aligned again. Despite his own judgement, he is becoming a king that he aspire to be.

But even with his progress, his past is still clinging unto him. He was once a man who never prays, but now he begs for redemption. Virgil, a priest he grew fond of, guides him through many questions he found himself asking. And when he met his mate, he made it his mission to redeem himself through her, through Beatrice.
