Je me nomme Roald Amundsen et je suis un marin et explorateur polaire norvégien.
Après une tentative avortée le 8 septembre 1911 d'atteindre le pôle Sud, Bjaaland, Hanssen, Hassel, Wisting et moi-même prenons le départ le 19 octobre. Nous attelons quatre traîneaux et cinquante-deux chiens. Cette quantité nous assure une provision de viande fraîche au retour. Ouvrant une voie jusqu'alors inconnue, sur le glacier Axel Heiberg, nous arrivons sur le plateau polaire le 21 novembre après une ascension de quatre jours. Le 14 décembre à quinze heures nous atteignons le pôle Sud. Ainsi, notre expédition fut la première à accomplir cet exploit.
