Have you ever seen the shadows? Not the ones that are created the by the sun or the lights on the street. We're talking about the ones catches the corner of your eyes or the ones you see at night. The shadows that strike fear and send children running into their parent's beds. Those are the shadows I speak of. Hallucinations, illusions or your mind just playing tricks on you. There is nothing to fear. They're not real, they are just shadows, but are they?
Ginette Gosse, a young woman born with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, a condition that left her legally blind, but just because she is blind, doesn't mean that she can't see. Her visual impairment grants her a gift. This gift is blessed to a single person with this condition every thousand years. The gift allows her to see in the world of shadows and with that insight she discovers their sinister nature. With the help of an ancient deity named Ambrogi, Ginette and a select few prepare to do battle with the Shadow Realm. If they fail, the world as we know it will be lost forever.

BOOK ONE: Having enough courage to run through the woods and away from the people who convinced me they were saving me was not how I believed I'd spend my day. Yet, there I went escaping from the only place I knew existed in the world. Being held captive was too much for me, especially when these people wouldn't tell me who they were or even who I was. The first moment in my life I recall very clearly. I awoke in a dark room, with recollection of everything that happened in the world except for one thing. I had no memory of myself existing, I didn't know where I was or why these men kept me from leaving. Days after I first woke I asked plenty of questions, and yet none of them were answered. The only thing I learned was that I was not allowed outside because the woods heald the most powerful magic on the planet, the most dangerous magic. It was more than just bad men and curiosity about the forest that got me to leave, it was a pull towards something; towards magic. Once I was in the forest turning back was never an option, so I put it in my head that I'd keep walking until I found a civilization or a nice paved road that would lead to safety. But that never happened because the forest has a force living through it. Believing that the forest held something strange was the easy part but experiencing it myself was something totally different. I didn't expect anything normal but I didn't expect to be completly engulfed into the forest. I was led by an unknown presence that made me truly believe it was a living being, and in fact it is. I was innocent then, but now I know that anything can be hidden under a small platform in the woods with a secret bigger than the world itself. I was given life that day, until it all ended months later; the day I took my last breath.

The years went by as Kira watched everyone else blossom and grow. The children had turned 18 and had stopped aging physically. With every passing year, their powers grew stronger, but they were not the only ones. He was getting closer; they were getting closer. Kira could feel it. It's almost like that tingling feeling on the back of your neck or when the hair on your skin would stand up straight. That strange feeling where a person feels like someone is standing behind them, but when they turn around, no one is there. That is how Kira feels; the intensity of those feelings grows with each passing year. It was only a matter of time before the Gates would open, and once more, Kira would face her own personal demon. He will come for her, and one of them will die, if not both of them. Looking back at her very long life, Kira realizes that she has many regrets. Such as allowing herself to live in fear, sheltering herself away in heaven, giving up her only child, not being there for her or their kin, and only watching what she has created bloom from afar. Had Kira known she was running out of time, she would've done things differently. For the choices she has made, she will pay the price. Time is ticking, like the sands of an hourglass. No matter how hard she tries to delay the inevitable, the sand continues to flow through her fingers. Nothing could prepare them for what is to come. Between the journal and Kira's nightmarish dreams, she doesn't know which scares her more. However, she does know one thing, and that is that she refuses to go down easily, even if it means she must make the ultimate sacrifice. It will be a fight to the finish.
