( This is a short story for an English assignment for school, and my first published Wattpad story; I hope that it is enjoyable! :) )

Alpine, a mountain goat, is the guardian of the seasons. It is his responsibility to keep the balance of the four. He carries with him the spirits of the seasons on his horns, their appearance changing with the current corresponding season. Though, the familiar pattern of the changing of seasons come to an abrupt halt, and Alpine must set off on a journey to retrieve the spirits of the seasons.Wszelkie Prawa Zastrzeżone

What if there were individuals with the power to control Emotion? To change how you feel at their own whim, and their life was key in maintaining the balance of it all? Well, there are. They're called the Spirits of Emotion, and they live in the same world as you and I do. There are three Spirits who control Emotion. The first two are called Negative and Positive, as that's how they are perceived by mankind. The Spirit of Negativity is a boy who can control Emotions deemed Negative, such as fear, anger and sadness. Spirit of Positivity is a girl who can control Emotions deemed Positive, such as happiness, love and calmness. The last Spirit is a man known as the Guardian of Emotion and Spirit of Balance. He has no control over Emotions, his duty lies with protecting the Negative and Positive Spirits. Though the knowledge of their powers has faded from the memory of humanity, there are still some who remember and want to take that power for themselves, no matter what it takes. For their own safety, the young Spirits live in an ancient palace in the sky, its powerful magic providing for and protecting them. Meanwhile, the Guardian must remain in the world below, acting as a scout for danger. His visits to the Negative and Positive Spirits are rare in order to avoid drawing danger to them, but as of late, leaving them alone together may prove to be a mistake.

He takes his position seriously but brings about a certain life that is not normally associated with a spirit often tangent with death. But what many outside of the Seasonal Court don't know is that these two polar opposites are one and the same. The other Guardians are about to learn that there is more to their newest member than they thought possible.

There was a Spirit. A Spirit Wolf to be exact. She had fluffy white fur, and some parts as inside her ears, her paws, and her eyes glowed.This particular Spirit preferred to be alone. She did not like company. Only 2 years ago a raven wouldn't stop bothering her. Surprisingly, this bird became her beloved companion. He helps her with her job as a spirit-and distracts her at times. The Spirit Wolf's job is to bring life and to pass life. Bringing life is to help plants grow and to watch over all of the new mothers in spring. To pass life means to let a corpse sink into the ground and become one with earth itself. If the creature that passed had a good life, the Spirit would put them into the afterlife. If they died a very unfair death or was too young for their life to be over, she would help them reincarnate. She could not reincarnate a creature every time it was killed, though. It would only make them have infinite lives. The Spirit Wolf seemed unhappy when she did her job, but she enjoyed seeing the faces of pure happiness of the new mothers. To summarize her duty, she needs to keep the law of nature in order. Even though she despises humans, she helps them too.

Imagine a place where the constellations of stars above your head are different from those you have ever seen, where the night sky can glow with strange swirling lights, and where the cold of winter comes when summer arrives elsewhere. Imagine a land of volcanoes, jagged white-topped mountains, rivers of ice, deep forests of ancient trees, and dark caves where carnivorous grubs glow like stars to lure in their prey. This is a land torn apart by earthquakes, and surrounded by waters filled with giant sea creatures: its people once fierce warriors who worshipped mysterious spirits. This is not some fictional place- this is New Zealand. With a tent and a backpack, Colin Skinner set off to explore the magical geography, wildlife and people that make the islands of New Zealand such a unique place. Isolated from other land masses for around 85 million years, the land is a 'Jurassic Ark', where animals and plants from the time of the dinosaurs have somehow survived. Ancient tree ferns, plants that produce spores rather than seeds, and primitive relatives of pine trees still grow in the forests. Among the unusual creatures that still live in New Zealand are flightless ground-dwelling birds, and ancient reptiles that have hardly evolved in the last 100 million years. With this fantastic land as a back drop, Colin Skinner went off the beaten track to find the people and stories that have been shaped by what is around them.
