Once upon a time, five people agreed to be part of a secret experiment. The experiment was meant to give them superpowers. They were promised that their loved ones would not be affected by the experiment, no matter what the outcome was. This was good, as the experiment failed--or so they thought. For one, it was her first child. For another, his second-born. For a third, her third. For the fourth, her fourth, and for the fifth, his first. They were all born with strange powers--powers that nobody could explain, and that put everybody around them in danger. Taken from their parents, the children were raised apart from society. Danny wasn't a Fenton. He wasn't their original child, in fact, he was their nephew. A nephew they lied to. They thought they were helping him, but all it did was cause him to resent them. Cause him to run away. He needed to fix this mistake he unknowingly made. Dick wasn't a Wayne, but he liked pretending to be. It felt better than remembering that he was abandoned by someone he thought he could trust. Someone he thought would never leave his side. Someone who wasn't there for their deaths. Yet, they couldn't stay away from each other for too long. After all, they were two halves of the same whole.

"Jesus Christ..." he muttered, swallowing hard. He reached out tentatively, his gloved fingers brushing against the infant's cheek. It was ice-cold. The baby's chest rose and fell faintly, each breath a Herculean effort. Beneath the child, the tarp was damp-not with water, but something metallic-smelling and sticky. Blood? Ramirez's stomach twisted. "Dispatch," he whispered hoarsely into his radio, forcing his voice steady. "Officer Ramirez, 9th and Mercer. I need an ambulance. I found an infant. Abandoned. Possible injury." . . "They found a baby in Gotham," Bruce finally said. "Abandoned in an alley. They ran a DNA test... and it matched you." Dick froze, the world around him suddenly quiet, as if the city itself held its breath. "What?" he said sharply, disbelief washing over him. "That's impossible."
