Music flew through the air on soft, downy wings, the notes dipping and soaring in beautiful patterns. Teens floated about, carrying cups of fruit punch and other, probably more questionable beverages. I watched from the back wall, tears drying on my cheeks.
Tonight was supposed to be fun. It was supposed to be my night. I'd had it all planned out: the perfect dress, the perfect shoes, the perfect guy. Now I was missing one of those, and the rest didn't seem like such an accomplishment. My boyfriend, Conner, had left me for another girl, dumping me right when I got to the dance. "You dropped this." I heard a husky voice say. I turned around to look at what I dropped and realized it was my schedule. I gasped. Damn, I would have been fucked if I'd lost it.
