This idea was originally my friend jakes, who came up with the possible back story of Matt struggling to find a way to help Tom live through the eminent cancer he had in his eyes, but the only way to help him is to ask tord, AKA red leader, who they currently are forming a resistance against.
Being too kind, tord accepts, under the conditions that matt and Edd go through and finish every trial he throws at them.
