Adopted into the manor of a wealthy and bizarre professor, the young timid Mia and her foster siblings Moyin and Vero grow up among the many secrets of the forested estate they learn to call home. Moyin and Mia befriend each other at once, looking similar enough that Professor Gatos assumes they're cousins despite the lack of birth documentation of each. Vero, a blonde boy with dark eyes and a reserved gaze, suffers from the traumas of his early years. Despite being intelligent, charming, and growing more handsome with each birthday, he carries a shrouded mystery with him that makes Mia feel there's a line drawn between them from the start. But as the adopted children of Pine Hill Manor face the challenges of every coming year, Mia learns with every tiny discovery of Vero that there's nothing of brotherly attachment in the strong pull she feels to him.
