Fresh graduate and novice knight Scholastica finally gets her very first mission as an Equesteer in her knighthood Eques ex Machina, or "Knights of the Machine,"  by escorting a Scholar on his quest to find a cure for the Rot, a mysterious deadly disease devastating city after city through out the Known World.

Much to her surprise, she is going to escort a man just a few years older than her, Ayen, a prodigy of the erudite Academy of Xeno, with a demeanour just as eluding as his looks. His astute and stoical personality directly clashes with her spunky and carefree attitude, making it difficult for the two to work in unison, especially when Ayen was only forced to have her come along at the whim of his mother, who is the opposing party to his journey.

Together, they embark on an adventure that'll bring them onto meet old and new allies as they uncover the true nature of the Rot, the sudden emergence of the magic 'Art' and its shunned practitioners called 'Artists', the truth and lies of one another, and the existence of the Known World itself...All Rights Reserved

First started in 2015, this story is at 50k+ words, but was removed when a plotting hiccup was encountered. I now intend to split it into three parts, and this is the complete Part 1.
