Scott is a hard-core believer in true love. How could he not be, considering all the successful relationships surrounding him? His parents are going on their 35th wedding anniversary, his sister is newly married, his best friend is engaged, and half of the students in his 3 PM discussion section seem to be deeply infatuated with one another. So, he hasn't found "the one" yet, but that doesn't stop him from believing that he's out there. Scott's nothing special, so there's no reason he shouldn't find love, just like everyone else. He's not worried; when it happens, it'll happen. Mitch has always believed in true love--until now. Now, he's just tired of love. He's been "in love" with three different guys in the past five years, and he's done his heart shredded and stomped on time and time again. "Dear Scott, I always knew you and Mitch would end up together. I know we never officially met, but Kirstie told me all about you. She said that you and Mitch will love each other and will be perfect together. If that's true, Scott, I want you to promise me a couple of things. I want you to promise me that you'll always make Mitch happy, whether it's in a marriage, relationship, or friendship. I want you to promise you'll never give up on him. He needs some stability in his life, Scott, and I'm hoping you'll be his rock. I want you to promise me that he can trust you in good times and in bad. I want you to promise me that he continues singing. The last promise is this: promise to love and cherish him forever. Can you promise me these things, Scott? Can you promise to love him for the rest of your years?" Tears start to swell in Mitch's eyes. I walk down to where he's sitting and I wipe the tears escaping from his eyes.
