Black magic. Psychics, witchcraft, practices of an art everyone in this day and age believe doesn't exist in this world.
But what if it did? What if, after all this time, it was there all along?
Magic runs on 2000 year cycles on earth. The last magicians of the magical age used magic to preserve themselves for the 2000 years without magic. But now it's returning, and there is an unsettling presence coming with it. Now, it is up to the ancient magicians to train new magicians, face new threats, in a technologically run earth being introduced to a power much more powerful than people can comprehend.

(To my current and new readers): I have updated the format to how I ACTUALLY tend to write the book, which is in fact segments. The chapter lengths are still the same, but now I'll be able to update it more frequently, to make it better for you, the wonderful readers of mine! :)

**My debut novel is available for pre-order with all major online retailers from 11/03/2019** This is just the first five chapters, which are also available on my website: www.bmmatsen.com Two days before the start of senior year, Emma Duvall is attacked by creatures that hunt from the shadows. A hidden world that exists within her own, explodes around her as she is faced with menacing creatures of the deep, ugly venomous creatures with voices so beautiful they bring humans to their knees, and a wicked beast with eyes the color of blood. When she touches them, their dark powers flow into her, awakening a hunger in her that had laid dormant for seventeen years. The darkness is seductive when it deals in rage. And rage is exactly what she needs to survive. Not only must she keep her powers a secret, she must also contend with the new boy in school. He is both dangerous and unnaturally handsome, drawing her in like a magnet. What she can't explain is why being close to him causes her physical pain. And those that hunt the monsters of the night-the Giborim-sworn to protect the humans, find that Emma may be just as monstrous. Except the striking, centuries-old, Blaze, who seeks revenge for the mother and sister he lost. Emma will do anything to impress him and earn his trust. Including using herself as bait to ensnare the final piece of Blaze's vengeance. War between the two races is looming on the horizon as the wicked creatures of nightmares seek to enslave humankind. When Emma is thrown in the middle as the ultimate weapon, she must allow herself to be wielded...just long enough to save the world. For when the raging fires of her wrath are unleashed, the world with be painted in the ashes of her enemies.

In a world where magical creatures and humans intermix, there are two types of magic and two types of people. Dark magic and light magic. Good people and evil people. Our main character is going to learn that your powers do not define who you are as a person. Arion Griffin lives in a society where people with light magic are 'good' and people with dark magic are 'bad'. He comes from a long line of dark magic. Unfortunately, this causes many problems for his social life since his family's reputation precedes him and makes it so no one will talk with him. He is worried it will make his greatest fear come true. He is terrified he is on the path to becoming evil like his parents. Then, one day at school he gets an invitation from Cassiopeia's School for the Gifted. Sure he's heard of it, but only in rumors. The school is just for magical creatures to learn more about themselves and their history. It was made over three hundred years ago and still run by a fairy named Cassiopea and her daughter Cassia. Arion is excited to go because his parents refuse to teach him anything about other magical creatures other than dark magic. They believe it is irrelevant for him to know because they think he will take over the world one day. And why should a leader know anything about his subjects? Arion convinces his parents that if he goes to the school he can do recon on the other magical people so he can learn about them and make it easier for him to take over. With no friends, no siblings, and a very negative outlook on life, he heads to Cassiopeia's School for the Gifted. He makes friends and learns that just because he has dark magic, doesn't mean he is evil. *Idk if this is actually a good story but I had a lot of fun writing it! :) *This story has been edited

"...And what of Modern Magic, Harry? Does it not live up to your expectations?" Harry stared at the guy in front of him, his jet-black hair and green eyes lie dormant in the dark room. Compared to the guy in front of him, whose soft silvery-white hair and iris-less blue eyes shine in the dark. "...It is a bit disappointing." He said as the guy chuckled. "Hah, it's meant to be 'balanced'. It's bound to laws that differentiate between good and evil." He says with a gleeful tone, smiling ear to ear with narrowed eyes. Harry scoffed. "Still, it's useful in a way. How about that Ancient Magic of yours? Any way we can use it to track him?" The guy nodded. "Of course, you just have to ask!" He said with a mischievous smile. Harry then nodded, before closing the book. "Good. Let's get going then. We only have a few days left." "Hehe, oh, but of course, dearest Potter~!" Harry flinched and smirked hearing that. "Heh, contain yourself, dearest Desaulniers." . . . What are the fundamentals of magic? Many seems to not know what magic truly is, even the renowned witches and wizards. Magic might be an Art, a Weapon, a Gift, a Curse, anything, really. But what magic truly is, is just that. Magic. There is no hidden context, magic is magic. Curses are just restrictions, and we know it. Magic is something that thrives of mystery. If you don't know about it, it grows stronger. Which is why the First Magician decreed the Deep Magic, to bind magic into the essence of the wild. But we know the truth. For I was there when it was written. And I am here now, where it will be annulled. The old age of Magic is now gone. We are entering a new era. Where magic, is just magic. Until all, are one. IKHGHEAN DAOTHNODE, TILTUHENDRU.

49 parts Complete

[COMPLETE] [[**Sequel, The Hybrid Harold, is up!**]] The first generation past the war has settled and the result is something no one from the past would recognize. In the United Human Alliance, the human run country that takes up much of the land mass that used to be the United States, magical children are taken from their parents and sent to boarding school at a young age. What provides humanity with safety from 'volatile' magical beings separates parents from their children and young adults from their culture. Alenia Paetzold is the prime example of what the UHA has created. A domestic dragon. That's why they never expect her to find her wings and burn the cage she is held in to the ground. Getting there, however, takes a prophecy, a lot of lies, and overwhelming love. "For The War Is Lost if They Can Not Win Their Child's Life Lost for Their Sin" ***OMG IT GOT TO NUMBER 1 IN MATRIARCHY!*** ***AND #4 IN FANTASY-ROMANCE!*** Trigger Warnings: Death.
