The first-grade project is what brought them together but a bond within the cherry blossom trees is what made them inseparable.  However, throughout their childhood, a costly war is being fought. A war that is drafting every able-bodied man to fight if they are seventeen or older. As Lucy and Benjamin grow older, they become closer and closer, soon making a promise to always be together regardless of what happens when Benjamin has to fight in a war that he doesn't even want to be a part of. However, doubts begin to form as Benjamin's seventeen birthday nears doubts that could tear them apart.
