Miranda Green and Martin Smith have been best friends ever since they can remember. Their family members describe them as chalk and cheese; Miranda's passion for adventure is very much the opposite of the calm collectedness of Martin. However, they both share a common hatred: the winter holidays. While Miranda wishes to get away from her constantly quarrelling family, Martin is reminded all too much of the tragic death of his younger brother.
This year, Miranda realises that they need to get away from their tiny, imprisoning town. Both of them embark on Miranda's "Operation Winter Escape", where events happen that may just change the world as they currently see it.
