After the second American Civil War, the world changes drastically. A new nation stood where the United States once was, the Last Empire having fallen to its own people. Addicted to more chemicals than a lab rat, Alfred has a hard time keeping his head up- quite literally. It's not that he doesn't want to quit- believe me, he does!- it's just that the withdrawal is destroying him from the inside out. What makes it worse, is when he's placed into an arranged marriage as a landgrab, and then told about it just before it happened. Now he is wrestling with both his addiction, and someone he was supposed to marry in 1860! Ivan was an addict, once. He understood the pain of withdrawal.
