Ember was born into a family of darkness, a family of hatred. In the world of shifters. She often ran off to escape the horrors of a home she had, she runs to her friend, who has taught her every trick in the book and others about the art of combat. For a reason.
The king has had plans to bring back the Shylxs. It's a large space in the center of a mountain, where people fight over what they love, to prove that their shifted animal is strong enough to survive without the king's help.
You are fighting for your family, related or not. You are fighting for what's basically your blood. You.
One of each shift will compete against the others, Showing who's strongest, and would be best fitted with a crown.
Ember gets in and has to survive in the Shylxs until everyone else is dead or mortally wounded.
But it all changes when someone steps into the Shylxs.

"Want? No. Expect? Yes. Your brother is more concerned with holding his mothers dress than leading his people... but by all means, if you have a plan to make him a worthy ruler, lay it out for me, Captain."
