Mickey and Lip have been friends since middle school. One day a new student arrives and has the same last name as Lip; Gallagher. His name is Ian. Mickey asks Lip about him and Lip tells him they're brothers, Mickey wondered why Lip didn't ever mention him before, and that's when Lip tells Mickey to stay away from Ian. But then they end up getting detention together. 

"Why do you always have detention?" Mickey asked Ian, looking amused.

"Why are you so nosy?" Ian replied, giving Mickey a playful look, it was like they had known each other forever.
